TWITTERpated at last!
Despite the fact that I am Madame Mommy Blogger I must admit that I am resistant to new technologies. I have never sent a text message in my life and the only reason I bought a cheap cell phone last year was so Hadley's preschool could reach me in case of an emergency. I use it only a few times a month.
But not to text (see above).
My reluctance to get a cell phone was two-fold:
1) I despise talking on the phone. Always have, always will. I am remiss to say I have let friendships go to the wayside because these people wanted to [gasp] talk and not email.
2) I don't want to be disturbed when I'm out with my kids. I constantly feel distracted when I am at home so when I am out with Haddie and Bode, I give them my undivided attention. I just don't want to be that person ignoring them on the playground because I'm checking my email. I do that plenty enough at home. :-)
Enter: the iPhone 3G. Jamie bought one and offered to do the same for me. I indignantly refused. Until I fell in love with his on our trip. I am still holding strong with my piece-of-crap Nokia and keep reminding myself if I got the 3G, I would have to actually use it.
Twitterpated
Though I am still holding strong against the cell phones and Crackberries of the world, I finally caved on twittering last weekend.
For those as clueless as me, Twitter is a free social networking micro-blogging service that allows its users to send and read other users' updates (otherwise known as tweets), which are text-based posts of up to 140 characters in length.
Twitting was The Thing To Do at BlogHer. I resisted because it seemed like a royal waste of time. It probably still is but now that I have jumped on the bandwagon, I'm kind of enjoying it because:
1) I can keep apprised of people's day-to-day happenings in short little bursts. It is much more convenient than blogging in this respect and takes less time. In fact, I encourage all my friends to come on-board (whether or not you have a blog.)
2) I finally found a venue for all those small profundities of my day. The cow that chased off the bear in Colorado? Twittered it. And when I dreamt hunky hubby was a murderer? Definitely tweet worthy.
So, come check it out. I can be found at http://twitter.com/crazycanuckblog or on my blog's right-hand sidebar. I'm a newbie at this so let me know if you're on Twitter, too! And for those veterans, please send me any tips of the trade. And make sure to tune in for my tirades.
In 140 characters or less, of course....
So, what's your pleasure? Twitter? Blog? Cell phone? Texting? This is a technological conFESSional so let's fess up!

Amber - I might have to try this myself. I don't know how to set up an account though..I guess I'll research it. I just hardly find time to blog, much less do the twitter thing. But, if you are a convert..maybe I'll check it out.
I am really laughing at one of your tweets - the "using our faces as springboards..." ha ha.
You never cease to make me laugh.
I've been slow on the twitter thing too. But it looks like if I want to be part of the "cool kids" I'll have to join. Sigh. ; )
Never heard of Twitter, but that's okay. I'm busy enough! I can't add more stuff to do! Just shoot me now!
But I'm glad you like it. Me? I am also obsessed with email. And the blogging. And phoning. But not texting. Texting? I'm borderline angry with it because it takes away the process of writing a coherent sentence. Kids already have spellcheck, and now they don't even need that, YKWIM? LOL!
So, give me my cell phone for emergencies, and my laptop with blogger on it, and I'm a happy camper. :)
I stick to blogging. I don't need yet another excuse to spend time on the computer.
We have a cell phone but I hardly use it and am not much of a phone talker either. I do like IMing and that is the main way that I keep in touch with my family. I am lazy and love being able to play around on the computer while I chat with my mom.
I'm on twitter, but rarely use it. I text my kids and my sister or cousin occasionally. I only get calls on my cell from my household.
We now have a law in CA-no cell use in the car. That was how I talked with my family-during long drives for kid activities, I had to break down and get a jawbone (thing that goes in your ear.) I've used it twice.
i, too, twitter. strong at first but now there are days i don't update. i'll look you up =)
It takes me an hour to type out a text. No, really. I don't do it unless I want to talk to my youngest brother... because he REFUSES to talk on the phone. Yeah, he's weird.
I've heard of Twitter... and I'm already on Facebook... and my blog... plus email... can I really add one more thing?
congratulations! :)
I do it all, but .... I only realized this summer that my phone had texting! So I'm a texting newbie!
I never use my cell phone. The only time it gets charged is when my husband pulls it out of the depths of my diaper bag and charges it. Or I am in the car and need to make a call so I plug it into the car charger because it is inevitably dead when I pull it out. I never text. My husband sends them to me but has not caught on that I never respond in text. I just call him instead.
I did twitter but then it started putting the date of my twitters about 10 days earlier than the day I wrote it. In frustration I gave up on it. Maybe I'll try it again...
I'm new to twitter too. I barely have time to do anything this week, even twitter.
I've been reluctant to add Twitter to my techie things to do list. I do enjoy my blog...updating my status on facebook, not so much the phone...I'd much rather email (totally with you on that), texting...only to young people who don't know how to do anything else.
Ah....maybe someday I'll get twitterpated too.
I'm twitterpated (@MommysMartini) -- and it's only a time-suck if you let it be. My only advice on it is that if you want to carry on a long conversation with someone that involves more than two or three exchanges back and forth, it's better to use the direct message (DM) function, since it gets a little annoying for your followers to read ONE side of a huge long conversation. Also? Don't twitter while driving. :)
So glad you have joined us!
I love twitter because it helps me keep up with my sweet bloggy friends that I can't read as much as I used to because now I'm working full-time.
So keep on tweeting!
I've never heard of this, but will have to look into it. I like the idea of tweeting while at work, some days are just too long and boring and I could use a good diversion.
Heather
I won't do it. *folds arms across chest* You can't make me. *sticks out lower lip*
I know in my heart of hearts that Twitter is going to get to me. But I'm fending it off as long as I can.
You are the first person I've found that feels like I do about phones. In the technological age it's difficult to explain to people why I never call just to talk. It doesn't help that many of my friends are stay-at-home moms or have no kids at all and seem to have no concept of the way I have to ration my time.
I love texting--except whenever I'm in the U.S. it costs me more to text than to call???? (Go figure) (I love to talk on the phone, but texting is faster when I'm with family ; )
I have never heard of twitter--may have to check it out.
I used my hubby's blackberry on our last trip and loved it. The iPhone was just recently introduced in Canada and I would LOVE to have one.
I just recently started using Twitter myself. I'm liking it so far so I'll add you to my folks.
I do like my cell phone and just got a pretty cool new one. It's the LG voyager which is Verizon's answer to the iphone. I only text to my hubby occassionly because none of the rest of family or friends are texters.
I've been on twitter for a while, but I just can't seem to get into it. I do LOVE my cell phone though. :)
I can't get excited about Twitter yet. I suppose if there are lots of people I know using it I may jump on the bandwagon.
My pleasure is my Crackberry. I can't quit my job because they will take my Crackberry away! The horror! Funny thing is that I don't like talking on it... it's awesome for texting and getting info from the internet at the very second you think about it.
Yeah! Glad you came on board!
...off to follow you on Twitter!
Shannan
I am hooked on blogging....but anyway the trip was a congrats trip to Tim for graduating and taking the bar exam! Way fun times!
I'm addicted to it all, but am trying to cut back for back to school. I'm going through withdrawls. I bought a new phone just so I can twitter and blog mobile. I'm a texter too and my girlfriends and I love to chat on our way homes from school since we have such a long commute. I'm not above not answering my cell though when I just don't want to talk, which does happen. Followed you on twitter, I'm the @boxofchocolates, of course.
I have been thinking of doing this lately.
Not sure if my blog addiction is not already too much.
I will let you know if I join you.
Have no clue what Twitter is. I like blogging, but finding the time is an issue. Our family only has cell phones. I put mine on vibrate when I don't want to be bothered.
My hubby got his Iphone a week or so ago and I pick up mine on Friday. Seems terribly excessive, but he loves his so much that I agreed get one too.
I still haven't caved to twittering ... no time ... maybe it is a good thing it isn't compatible with the free wordpress :) !!
