Let's get P-O-L-I-T-I-C-A-L, POLITICAL, I wanna get POLITICALLLLL

OK, so maybe those weren't exactly the words (but can you name that classic Olivia Newton-John tune?)

I am not politically active. And really, how could I be? I moved away from Canada when I was 18 and have lived in an alien land ever since. The most political I've ever been was when watching that one show that was named after me.

You know. Politically Incorrect.

So, when I was invited by Mr. Lady (she who is half-man, half-woman and half-Canuck, half-American) to the Rocky Mountain Blogger Bash for the DNC, I had absolutely no intentions of waxing political. In fact, I probably would not have watched Obama's speech had I not been herded in there with everyone else. The reactions were across the board--from those inspired souls who were weeping, to the Republican poli blogger who was making catcalls to Obama's promises that included, "Yeah, and you'll give every little girl a pony, right?"

But no matter what end of the spectrum you were on, there was a common energy and kinship that radiated. Why? Because whether Democratic, Republican or Alien, we were all blogging geeks who, for a few hours, felt cool.

As I was signing in, four beautifully dressed and giggling women came up behind me. My first thought was, "These have got to be moms who are out of the town together for the first time without kids." I was right. And Amy of Crunchy Domestic Goddess, Heather of A Mama's Blog, Julie of Chez Artz and Melissa of Nature Deva were every bit as delightful in person as they are on their blogs.

More lovelies were added to the list before long: Aimee of Greeblemonkey, Julie of Mothergoosemouse, Amy of Inherent Passion, Suzanne of Crunchy Green Mom, Laura of LaLa Girl, not to mention Marge in Real Life. Really.

(Julie, me, Melissa (front), Laura, Suzanne, Amy and Heather)

Lijit was one of the sponsors and their lovely televangelist evangelist Tara Anderson was there to take my hand (no, it wasn't that kind of party) and guide me through the ins and outs of this Boulder-based company. Lijit allows bloggers to create their own own search engines that can be based just upon their blog or across multiple social networking services.

I now heart Lijit because 1) This means I no longer have to feel self-absorbed by Googling myself to reference past stories and 2) You, my dear friends, can type in something like "pumpkins" in my site's little Lijit Search Wijit and find out just how deep my husband's obsession runs. In one sitting.

Another highlight was meeting 'Twas Brillig. If she was a man and named Jamie Johnson, I would totally be all over her. If it was that kind of party. Which it definitely wasn't. Seriously though, this gal is hilarious, just moved from Utah, speaks about 90 different languages and described me as sparkling. How could I not be in girl love (of the innocent variety).

We left the party with her two friends and strolled 16th Street Mall taking in all the revelries. Bands were playing in the streets, Obama action figures were everywhere and Denver came alive as it shone in the national limelight.

So, whether or not you are a believer, I was so glad that for a few short hours this week, I was a taker.

Are you political? What do you think of McCain's choice in VP? Are you swept away by Obama-rama? What are your views of this political season?

Obama is a freak. There I said it. The last thing we need is a Socialist at the White House. The "Obama-rama" only made me cement my opinion of his lameless. His choice for VP was a bad move.

I'm excited about McCain's choice in VP. She is quite amazing. She also is a great balance for McCain and quite conservative.

I try to stay out of the political mess because I tend to be too opinionated. :)

I'm a democrat. My husband is a republican. We have become an apolitical family and discussions of politics are banned. We went to Glenwood Springs to escape the DNC. :-)

Politics-schmolitics. Hmm...I wonder if that attitude is a Canadian thang? =P

I'm so jealous you got to see Brillig! I met her last summer and was instantly smitten!

I don't like either one of them. I am voting for the lesser of two evils! :) I'm a republican...from the south...go figure!

It sounds like you had a fun time. I am not too into politics either. I am so glad that we don't have tv and that I don't have to listen to all the horrible commercials.

It was so great to see you! What a fabulous time.

My thoughts on the political developments...well, those may take a few dozen posts of their own. Strange days, indeed.

I wish you would have gotten political- I have to say I'd love to hear what you think about these two goofs. McCain became morally replusive to me after I've read a few articles about him and his romantic (if you can call it that) past. Obama is in my face everywhere I go and thus I don't like him. Being Canadian in this country is such a blessing- I'm so glad I don't have to vote.

I know I should be making smart political comments here, but all I can say is SERIOUSLY? You really met Brillig? I'm so envious! It sounds like you had a great time, and I'm curious what you thought about the politics too.

I had such a great time at that party and am totally swept away with Obama-mania especially in light of all the details coming out over certain "hidden" and basically lied about issues concerning Panlin's 5th child.

It was great to meet you in person, too!

Sounds like it was a fun party whether you are political or not. I'm not a fan of McCain but I'm not into the Obama-rama either. So whoever I decide to vote for in November will be the lesser of 2 evils for me.

I was impressed with Palin's speech. I didn't know a thing about her before I heard her speak.

How fun to get to meet up with more bloggers.

I don't love either Obama or McCain. I'm an independent, I was leaning a bit towards McCain until he picked Palin for VP and that pushed me over the edge towards Obama. I think McCain's pick was a self-centered one...I don't think he has the best interests of our Country in mind. I think he only cares about HIM getting elected and getting the title. Sadly.

I got a glimpse of the excitement for Barack Obama being downtown last Thursday night. I still have reservations about Obama. John McCain clashes with everything issue that matters most to me. I will vote for Obama.

I feel anything that gets more interesting or following politics is a plus.

Amber, glad you had a great time. How late were you guys out? I raced to get home and part of me regrets it. Though, I was tired Friday even though I left early.

I'm actually pretty excited about McCain's VP pick. I admire her and think she is a wonderful lady. I can't wait to hear more from her and see what the national reaction is so her...I think she would be great!

I'm not overly excited about either choice. I do like Palin though. And my moral values DO NOT align with the Dems, so I'll be voting Republican by default.

My husband thinks I have becoming a political junkie. I kinda have lately. I am very interested in politics and am particularly interested in this presidential election...I am going to post my own thoughts about the politicians...you'll have to come and read me! Look for it in a day or two!

Happy to have finally met you in person.

I think this election is very interesting and obviously there are twists and turns every day.

As an Independent, I haven't decided whom I voting for- I have reservations about both, but there are also things I like about both as well.

I like the Palin pick though- I think it is time for a woman to be in the White House, if that is her desire and she has a chance to do it.

As for politics... there are days I think seriously of migrating North for the winter... I'm sick of it all, really.
However, a night out with lady bloggers, that's something I can get into.

Oh. Mygosh. A paragraph? All about little ol' me? calling me a "highlight"? Wowzers. I'm feeling a bit swept away by all that (innocent, natch) girl love! The feeling is mighty-mutual, my dear, as meeting you was a highlight of my year.

And, oh yeah, the party was cool too.

And I'll just leave it at that. If I allow myself to delve into politics here, I might find that I've lost all my friends in one fell swoop... It's happened before...

:-D

I'm not going to talk about where I stand, but will say that this year I have really gotten into politics. I think it's because of blogging and twitter. It makes everything so much more accessable. I've had fun chatting with others and reading their tweets on the conventions.
